Short Film Competition

In an increasingly digital world, understanding and navigating the digital sphere is essential to personal and professional growth. To advance this objective, the Center for Digital Advancement is excited to announce a Short Film Competition, designed to inspire creativity and spread awareness about the benefit and use of digital tools for various strata of the society. This initiative aligns with the center's mission to leverage digital technology for positive societal change.

Through the art of storytelling, we aim to deepen the understanding of how digital literacy can empower individuals and drive transformative change in society. Join us in this exciting journey to showcase how the digital world is reshaping lives, one film at a time!

We are on the lookout for films that creatively explore digital literacy in fresh and impactful ways.

The short films can be based on, but are not limited to, the following themes

  • Citizen Engagement:
    Expanding role of digital platforms in shaping civic life, providing a canvas to explore the nuances of online political participation, government accountability, and public discourse.
  • Algorithmic Artistry:
    Myriad ways algorithms influence behavior and consumption, opening discussions on the intersection of technology and human agency.
  • E-Government:
    Transition from paper-based to digital services in government processes, reflecting on the effects this has on efficiency, accessibility, and citizen satisfaction.
  • Beyond the Screen:
    Impact of digital personas on real-world identities, examining how virtual experiences and social media shape personal and societal values.
  • Digital Activism:
    Role of technology in activism, spotlighting digital efforts to promote transparency, justice, and freedom of information across different societies.
  • Fighting Misinformation:
    Challenge of navigating truth in a digital world overloaded with information, exploring strategies to discern and combat misinformation.
  • Digital Payments:
    Dynamics of the evolving digital payment ecosystem, from security measures to the cultural shifts towards a cashless society.
  • Social Media for Social Good:
    Power of social media in mobilizing support, driving change, and creating communities, with a focus on campaigns that have led to tangible social impacts.
  • Safety and Privacy:
    Negotiation between embracing digital conveniences and protecting personal privacy, what safety means in a connected world.
  • Digital Literacy:
    Digital empowerment through education, highlighting how diverse communities adapt to and embrace technology across various aspects of life.
  • Screen Addiction: Exploring the impact of excessive screen time on daily life, mental health, and social interactions in the digital age.

Rules

  • Theme Alignment:
    Films must clearly align with the theme of this competition.
  • Film Duration:
    Films should be up to 20 minutes, excluding credits.
  • Eligibility:
    Open to filmmakers worldwide-students, professionals, and enthusiasts are all welcome.
  • Submission Format:
    Films must be submitted in MP4 or MOV format with HD resolution (1080p or higher).
  • Language and Subtitles:
    Films may be in any language. Submissions not in English must include clear English subtitles.
  • Filming Equipment:
    Films shot using any device, including mobile phones and professional equipment, are accepted.
  • Originality and Permissions:
    Films must be your own original work, free of plagiarism. They should not contain third-party content (including music, footage, images, etc.) unless explicit permissions have been secured.
    Films must not promote commercial products or services, contain trademarks, or depict dangerous, inappropriate, defamatory, offensive, or illegal behavior. All submissions must comply with applicable laws and confidentiality obligations.
  • Multiple Entries:
    Participants may submit multiple films; however, each entry must be submitted separately.
  • Judging Criteria:
    Entries will be evaluated based on Creativity and originality, Relevance to the theme, Storytelling and narrative impact, Potential to influence and engage audiences and
    Technical quality (audio, visuals, editing).

Rights and Permissions from Winning Films:
By submitting your film, you agree to the following conditions if your film is selected as a winner:

  1. All production and distribution entities involved grant FLAME University a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, fully paid-up, sublicensable license for public screenings.
  2. FLAME University may promote winning films, including titles and summaries, through online platforms, digital catalogs, and awareness campaigns. Films could also be considered for educational activities aligned with CDA’s mission, either directly by CDA or in collaboration with partnering organizations.
  3. FLAME University may host additional public screenings and promotional events showcasing winning films to further CDA’s objectives of digital literacy and awareness.
  4. Winning films may also be uploaded to CDA’s official channels for public viewing and wider dissemination.
